Instructions (Keep in mind that these recommendations are based on internal testing. Investigate the test scent loading, colours, and temperatures on your own. We advise utilising our fragrance line with up to 10% scent load. To ensure that the wax at the proper temperature, we suggest using a digital thermometer.)
1. Line your work surface with newspaper as pouring candles can be messy. Make sure you are working on a stable platform and that the wicks of your candles are securely in place. To make sure that the jars are not overfilled, mark the maximum fill line with a non-permanent marker.
2. Melting: The best way to melt wax is in a double boiler, away from direct heat. Melt your wax gradually to 80-90 degrees Celsius. The wax should have a transparent appearance throughout. Despite being a forgiving wax, use caution when heating it above 100°C as this may affect how the wax sets and performs.
3. Fragrance should be added between 75°C and 85°C and carefully stirred for two minutes. Please take note that, depending on the strength of the specific fragrance, we only advise using not more than 10% fragrance load when using paraffin wax as the only wax for a candle. To ensure that the colour integrates effectively with the wax, it is recommended to add colour before the fragrance.
4. Pouring: The wax is ready to be poured once your chosen aroma and colour have merged and the wax has cooled to 75°C. The wax will be clear. To allow space for the top-up, fill the container to 2 cm below the maximum fill line. Depending on how many candles you're making, make sure you have enough wax on hand for the top-up. It is crucial to maintain the containers at the same temperature as the surrounding room.
5. Curing and Topping Up: Give wax 12 hours to cure. Warm up the remaining wax to a temperature of between 70°C and 75°C in a double boiler.
Add more wax to the last layer of the candle until it reaches the container's maximum fill line. Give it another 12 hours to set. Always pour the topping layer more slowly than the base layer. You can use up to three pours of paraffin wax to ensure container adherence and to hold down your smooth top.
Do a burn test after allowing your candle to stand for 3-5 days.
